My New Old Underwood Typewriter

I credit my sister with my growing typewriter addiction.  It all started after my sister’s visit here in July.  She found a couple of vintage typewriters while she was here, but she couldn’t get them home because they are so heavy.  After looking at typewriters with my sister I started looking at other typewriters while I was shopping.  I found some that were very nice and very expensive.  I started picking some up when they caught my eye.  I now have several of my own typewriters and I love them.  My newest and favorite typewriter is this Underwood No. 5.

This one is special because it was made for sale in France.  It has an AZERTY keyboard and this plaque on the front.  I love this piece of Americana with a French twist.

The vintage style of this beautiful piece makes me so happy.  The fact that it still works is a testament to the craftsmanship of the early 1900’s.  I am so pleased to have a piece of history in my home.

  1. I also really like olde typewriters. I don’t have any myself, but really like looking at those others have. I almost bid on one at a silent auction once, but the starting bid was $100! Thanks so much for sharing this at History & Home this week, I enjoyed seeing it.
